Local Roots
Local Roots Market and Café is now open in downtown Wooster. The mission of Local Roots is "To establish a year-round market place for the purpose of connecting consumers and producers of locally grown foods and other agricultural products. Our goals are to encourage healthy eating, expand local economic development, promote community involvement, and sustainable living."
Monica is part of the Local Roots Steering Committee. She has a PhD in biochemistry and her background is in scientific research and teaching. However, for the past 13 years she has devoted herself to her family and to her fruit and vegetable farming business near West Salem. She became involved in the local foods market project because she is passionate about good food, good farming practices, environmental stewardship, local economic development and community relations. She is currently president of the Real F.O.O.D. chapter of OEFFA (Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association) which provides her with connections to many individuals in the local farming community.
